Is my data private? What happens to my conversations?

Is my data private? What happens to my conversations?

In short: your conversations with Mia and Max are kept private, and your data is handled under European data protection law (GDPR). Amara is made by H2 Technologies GmbH, a small team in Berlin — not a big tech company.

What your conversations are used for

When you talk to Mia and Max, your words are processed so Amara can understand you, reply, and remember the things that matter — your granddaughter's name, your favourite film — so the conversation feels familiar next time. The full detail of what's kept, and for how long, is in our privacy policy.

Who can see your conversations

Your conversations aren't shared with advertisers and aren't sold — full stop. To run Amara, and to give Mia and Max their voices, we work with a small number of carefully chosen technical providers, who only ever handle what's needed to make Amara work. They're held to the same data-protection standards we are.

Is my data sold or used for adverts?

No. Your conversations are never sold, and never used for advertising.

How long is my data kept, and is it used to improve Amara?

This is set out in our privacy policy, which explains plainly what we keep, why, and for how long. If anything there isn't clear, message us and we'll talk you through it.

How can I have my data deleted?

Under GDPR, you have the right to see the data we hold about you and to ask us to delete it. Message us here in the chat and we'll help you with your request.

Good to know

Amara is someone to talk to — not a doctor or a therapist. And if you're ever unsure what happens to your words, do ask. We'd far rather explain it properly than have you wonder.
