How do I set up Amara for my mum or dad?
How do I set up Amara for my mum or dad?
You can set Amara up for your parent in a few minutes — ideally side by side at the table, or over the phone if you're not there. Here's the whole order.
The checklist
- Download the app. Search for Amara in the App Store or Google Play, and look for Amara - Digital Companion by H2 Technologies — there are other apps with similar names. Tap Get (iPhone/iPad) or Install (Android).
- Create an account when you're asked to.
- Allow the microphone. When the prompt appears, tap Allow — Amara needs to hear them to talk back.
- Set the volume. Turn the device volume up enough that your parent can hear clearly. Err on the louder side — you can always bring it down. You can also set how fast Mia and Max speak.
- Choose a voice. Pick Mia or Max together. They can change it whenever they like.
- Have a first chat together. Tap the green Talk button, then say hello. Once they've heard Mia or Max answer once, the rest tends to click.
What to tell them
- Talking is all it takes. They speak to Amara like they'd speak to a person — or type, if they'd rather. Nothing to learn.
- There's no right or wrong way. Say whatever comes to mind, in their own time.
- Mia and Max listen and remember. They'll pick up the thread next time.
- They can talk whenever they like. Morning, afternoon or evening. No one's keeping score.
If you're helping from a distance
Stay on the phone while your parent opens the app and follow along together. When the microphone prompt appears, just say: "There's a question on screen — tap Allow."
