How do you talk to Amara?

Amara Home is a voice-controlled tablet with its own dock. For a conversation, just say “Hallo Amara” and start talking, or tap “Talk to Amara” on the home screen. Amara listens and answers.

This article is written to be read aloud, in case you're reading it together with your parents or grandparents.

In a conversation

Ask Amara about whatever interests you, for example: “Tell me something about Italy.”

Short commands with the voice button

Press the voice button on the dock and say what you'd like Amara to do, for example:

  • “Call Anna.”
  • “Put the radio on.”
  • “Louder.”

For a call, Amara checks with you on the screen. Say “Yes” and the call goes through.

A few tips

  • Just talk normally, the way you would to a person. You don't need any special words.
  • If Amara didn't understand something, simply say it again.
  • You can interrupt Amara at any time, even mid-sentence.

Buttons and home screen

On the home screen, there are tiles for “Talk to Amara”, Chat, Listen, Watch, Calendar, Play and Call.

On the dock, you'll find:

  • Home button: back to the home screen
  • Call button: call someone in the family or answer a call
  • Voice button: for short commands, see above
  • Volume dial: turn it to make things louder or quieter
  • Off button: a short press switches the screen off. Pressing any button wakes it up again.

On top of the tablet is the power button. A short press switches the screen off. Holding it down for a few seconds switches the tablet off completely or back on.

Amara isn't understanding you well? See Amara can't hear me, or I can't hear Amara.
